Why Matte Finnish?

Over 100 years ago, Russian and Nordic Region fisherman used to smoke spoons and ice jigs  to dull the finnish. The fisherman's theory was that a matte lure appears to be of it's original size for fish, When a glitter lure may be interpreted by fish as a larger one.

Tungsten ice jigs have been steadily gaining in popuarity over the last five to six years, and for good reason. Using tungsten jigs gives you many advantages. Sense tungsten is more dense than traditional lead, using tungsten jigs allow you to fish very small jigs and baits, but still be able to fish deep. This can be key, especially in the late winter when big panfish head deep or suspend looking for oxygen and food rich waters. Using tungsten also is great for hole hopping because it allows you to fish fast. Since these jigs are heavier, they get down to the strike zone faster, allowing you to determine if fish are present or not, and if not, move on to the next hole.
