The one tool you can not be without when keeping fish is the fillet knife. Without it, you could very well be eating alone.

It's All About The Knife

When your watching someone on television fillet something, you can't help but notice how easy they make it look. Well, it's the knife. Of course having some knowledge of what your doing helps as well but a quality knife does wonders! The perfect fillet knife will have a thin, high quality stainless steel blade with a little built in flex for some precision cutting. The handle style is really a personal thing some Anglers like a soft grip for better handling and others like a hard grip for better feel. Of course, smaller blades for smaller fish and larger blades for larger fish.

Every couple of fish you fillet, run your knife correctly through a sharpener to keep it's "edge" sharp. The major problem in sharpening knives is getting back the "edge" once the blade has gone dull. If you keep the "edge" the blade is always sharp.
